Who Are You? Whois Knows!

in trust

Every domain on the internet has information stored about it.  Information such as the name of the domain owner and his or her contact information.  You can easily find this information for any website by visiting Whois Source and entering the URL in question.

For example, running a Whois search on Top Ten Blogging will bring up the following information:

  • Registrant: Rob McGuire
  • Address: P.O. Box 1568  Salem, OR  97301
  • Email: rob@toptenblogging.com

It is important to know that this kind of information on domain names exists.  Many people choose to keep this information private and in some cases this may be a wise thing to do.  But if you are going to use a blog to help your business grow it is imperative that you provide the correct registrant information and make it available.  Why make it available?  It’s all about trust.

Trust is the key to gaining customers

Trust is one of the reasons your customers continue being your customers.  You wouldn’t do business with someone you couldn’t trust, would you?  Hiding your true contact information tells potential customers that you do not want them to know who you are or where you’re at.  Hiding your information appears deceptive.  It is not something you want to do if you are operating a business online.

Having a blog to publish information about your company is a great way to drum up more traffic and sales so why hinder your efforts under a mask of secrecy?  Let your customers know who you are by providing accurate information in your domain registrant records.
