Are you looking for a simple and effective way to drive more traffic to your website? I have been asked this question many times from many different people. It seems everyone is looking for the “secrets” that will bring more visitors to their website.
Not too long ago I was discussing a blog marketing proposal with an online company. They had a great product line at a competitive price, but were not making anywhere near the amount of sales that they would like. Two of their main problems was that they were involved in a highly competitive marketplace and their site was receiving little recognition from the search engines. I will pose to you what I also proposed to him.
Seeing as his product line had some variations to it, I told him that he would probably be better off starting not just one blog, but several blogs for his business. He could better reach specific people by establishing blogs that targeted specific keywords.
It’s hard to succeed with only one website
When you think about this, it makes sense. It is much easier to to get a blog ranked high if it is targeting one or two keywords as compared to if your blog is about an entire industry. A blog that targets just one keyword has content that is more focused on that keyword, and will result in getting more relevant traffic.
Let me illustrate this concept. Let’s say that John Doe has built a website to sell shoes. After a while, John decides he wants to use blogging to help out his business. After looking at his business as well as his competitors, John decided that it would be ideal to set up keyword specific blogs. He decides to launch a blog about “mens shoes”, another blog on “womens shoes”, and one more on “kids shoes”. He also plans on future blogs that are even more brand specific, such as “nike shoes” or “reebok shoes”.
To further improve your keyword specific blog you should take the following steps if at all possible:
- Host your blog on a keyword friendly URL. In the above case of John Doe he should look to obtain domains that contain the keywords he is targeting, something along the lines of “mens-shoes.com”.
- Make sure your blog title has your keyword in it. This is important and the benefits of doing this will go a long ways.
- Keep your blog content focused on your targeted keyword! It’s OK to wander off this path once in a while, but you still want to keep your content centered on the topic of your blog. By keeping the spotlight on your specific keyword you will enable your blog to rank higher for relevant search results.
The benefits from business blogging can be easily seen when you utilize blogs to target specific keywords in your industry. If you’re business could use a boost or you would just like to get a leg up on your competition then maybe it’s time you looked into the power of blogging.
